A service provided by Alawsat.com to enable clients specifying certain events when these events occur, the customer will receive an alert message in his/her inbox or email.


Ask 

The act of quoting a sell price or the price at which a sell order is placed. The low ask is the lowest price at which someone is willing to sell a given stock.

Bear Market

A market with declining prices or Index values. Derived from the fact the bears hold their head down.


Bid

The act of quoting a buy price or the price at which a buy order is placed. The high bid is the highest price that someone is willing to pay for a given stock.


Break-up

A break-up occurs when one company is split into two or more separate companies. One of the companies resulting from the break-up may retain the Ticker Symbol of the company that is being broken apart or all resulting companies may have completely new Ticker Symbols. A break-up is quoted a percentages of new shares for each old share owned. Investors who own shares by the end of the Cutoff Date will participate in the break-up. The new shares are delivered during the night between the Cutoff Date and the Ex-Event Date.


Bonus Shares

This is a stock distribution that is delivered to all shareholders who own stock in a given company at the end of the Cutoff Date. A bonus share distribution is quoted as a percentage of bonus shares for each share owned and is delivered to the shareholder on the Delivery Date, which is usually later than the Ex-Event Date. The percentage of bonus shares is usually less than 50%.


Bull Market

A market with rising prices or Index values. Derived from the fact the bulls hold their head up.

Bear Market

Bid

Cash

Money available in the Alawsat.com account that gives the buying power to purchase stocks.


Close

The last price from the most recent previous trading session in which this stock traded, corrected for any change to the stock value caused by a Corporate Event that occurred since the day when the stock last traded


Consensus

Researches reaching a general agreement for a given company.


Corporate Event

A special event that is announced by the stock company. The following types of Corporate Events may occur: Dividend, Split, Bonus Shares, Merger, Break-up, Offer to Buy and Subscription.


Cutoff Date

This is the last day for investors to buy stock in order to be eligible to participate in a Dividend or other Corporate Event.



Date bought

It is the date on which the stock is bought.


Day high/low

Highest/lowest price of a certain stock reached during today's market hours.


Day Order

An order that is placed with a day duration will automatically be cancelled at the end of the trading session, if it is not fully filled.


Delivery Date

The date when a Distribution will be paid to the shareholders who owned shares at the end of the Cutoff Date, regardless whether he later sold these shares.


Duration

The amount of time the order will be kept in the system until it is executed and fully filled.

Execute

The process of creating a trade by matching a buy and sell order.


Ex-Dividend Date

This is the first day on which the shareholder's right to participate in a Dividend has expired. This is the first business day following the Cutoff Date.


Ex-Event Date

This is the first day after a Corporate Event has occurred. Investors who buy shares on this day or later are not permitted to participate in the Corporate Event.

Fill

The process of matching a given order with one or more matching orders.

GTD Order

The is an order known as Good-til-date that can be traded up through a given date in the future. When the user enters the number of days for an order to be valid, it may trade on the current date or up to the given number of calendar days into the future. Any unfilled part of the order will be automatically cancelled by the system at the end of the last day. A GTD order can be placed for a maximum of 90 days.

High

The highest price at which a given stock trades during a trading session.

Index

An indicator of how a selected group of stocks is performing. A mathematical formula is applied to the Last prices of those stocks that contribute to the index in order to compute an index.


IOC

This is an abbreviation for "Immediate-or-cancel". Orders with this fill restriction must be immediately matched with existing active orders. Any part of the order that cannot be immediately matched will be automatically cancelled by the system.

Market Maker

A market participant who attempts to earn a profit by buying and selling the same stock, often at the same time, with the Ask slightly higher than the Bid.


Market Order

This is an order without a price that will be matched at the best price that is currently available in the market. For an illiquid market, the best Bid or Ask may be far away from the Last. A market order to buy is limited by the system to a maximum of 10% above the Last. A market order to sell could by executed at any price, possibly much lower than the Last Price.


Market value

The amount that a seller may expect to obtain for merchandise, services, or securities in the open market.


Merger

A merger results from the combination of two or more companies to result in one single company. The new company may retain the Ticker Symbol of one of the companies being merged or it may be completely new. A merger is quoted a percentages of new shares for each old share being exchanged.. If one company is acquiring another company without changing its Ticker Symbol, then only the exchange of shares for the company being acquired will be shown. Investors who own shares by the end of the Cutoff Date will participate in the merger. The new shares are delivered during the night between the Cutoff Date and the Ex-Event Date.


Most active

The stocks with the highest volume of trading on a certain day.

Net amount

The gain or loss on a security sale as measured by the selling price of a security less the adjusted cost of acquisition.


Net change

The points or dollars by which the closing price of a security or a security average has changed from the closing price on the last previous day it traded.

Offer to Buy

This is a Corporate Event in which an investor or another company wishes to buy most of the shares of a given company. An offer to buy is quoted at a fixed price and is sent to all shareholders so that they can decide about whether to participate in the offer. The shareholders must decide whether to participate by the Cutoff Date. An offer to buy may have conditions, such as a requirement that a minimum percentage of the shareholders must participate or else the offer may be withdrawn. This condition may be used by an investor who wishes to a acquire majority ownership interest in a given company.


Open

The price for the first trade of a given stock trades during a trading session.

Pending

An order or a cancellation request has been submitted to an exchange but has not yet been confirmed as being processed. An order is still subject to being filled while a cancellation request is pending.


Pending delivery

The remaining stock quantity from orders that are partially filled. (i.e. order of 5,000 stocks are partially filled with 3,000 stocks. The pending delivery is 2,000 stocks that are not yet bought from the stock market.


Percentage change (% change)

The percentage change in stock price compared with yesterday's closing price.


PIN

(Personal Identification Number) A password used for identification. Used when placing highly secured services such as bank transfers and trading.


Previous

This is the closing price on the day when the stock last traded prior to the current trading session. The previous price may be adjusted for the effect of a Corporate Event, in case such an event occurred since the day when the stock last traded.


Price

The amount as of money, asked for a given stock in the stock market.


Price bought

It is the price at which the stock was bought


Price paid

It is the amount of payment one has accepted in paying when completing the transaction.


Price sold

It is the price at which a stock was sold.


Profit & loss (realized)

Profit/stock that are realized by selling the stock.


Profit & loss (unrealized)

Profit/loss that are not yet realized because the stock are still owned in the portfolio. When these stocks are sold the profit/loss will be realized.

Highest bid and lowest offer (asked) price currently available on a security or a commodity.

Reverse Split

This is a stock revaluation where several shares are combined into one. This is normally done when the shares have lost the majority of their value, and the company prefers to have less shares but more valuable shares rather than many less valuable shares. Shareholders who own stock in a given company at the end of the Cutoff Date must participate in the resvese split. A reverse split is quoted as a negative percentage of shares taken away for each share owned. The shares are removed during the night between the Cutoff date and the Ex-Event Date. A reverse split percentage is always between 0 and -100%. Reverse splits are often referred to as a ratio. A -50% split is also known as a 1 for 2 split, since an owner of 2 shares will have only 1 share after the reverse split. A -90% reverse split is 1 for 10, while a reverse split of -99% requires 100 old shares to receive 1 new share.

Split

This is a stock distribution that is delivered to all shareholders who own stock in a given company at the end of the Cutoff Date. A stock split is quoted as a percentage of additional shares for each share owned and is delivered to the shareholder during the night between the Cutoff date and the Ex-Event Date. The split percentage is usually at least 50%. Splits are often referred to as a ratio. A 50% split is also known as a 3 for 2 split, since an owner of 2 shares will have 3 shares after the split. A 100% split is 2 for 1, while a 200% split is called 3 for 1.

Stop Limit Order

An order to buy stock at a limit price when the Last reaches a given price or higher or to sell stock at a limit price when the Last reaches a given price or lower. The stop and limit prices may be the same or different.


Stop Order

An order to buy stock at the market when the Last reaches a given price or higher or to sell stock at the market when the Last reaches a given price or lower. The name of this order type is derived from its use to stop or reduce his loss when an investor sells his stocks due to a drop in the stock price. A buy stop order is limited by the system to a maximum of 10% above the stop price. A sell stop order could be executed at any price, possibly much lower than the stop price.


Subscription

A subscription is an offer by a company to sell additional shares to its current shareholders at a below market price, usually for the purpose of raising additional capital. A subscription is quoted as a percentage of additional shares that may be purchased for each share owned at a fixed price that is established by the company. The shareholders must decide whether to participate by the Cutoff Date. The additional shares are delivered to the shareholder on the Delivery Date, which is usually later than the Ex-Event Date.


Symbol

Letters used to identify companies on the consolidated tape and other locations.

Tick Size

The minimum price increment for an order that will be submitted for trading. The tick size for the United States markets is currently 1 cent (or 0.01 Dollars).


Ticker Symbol

A short identifier with a maximum of 6 letters that uniquely identifies every stock that is listed for trading in the United States.


Trading Password

A secret word or phrase that one uses to gain admittance or access to Alawsat.com's website.


Transaction Type

This is the type of the transaction. Orders and trades have only two types: Buy and Sell. The transaction history table includes other transaction types, including deposits, withdrawals, interest, and Corporate Events.


Top 10 gainers and losers

These are the top 10 gainers in terms of the stock price during today's market hours and up to this moment.


Total cost

The price paid for a security plus the brokers commission and any accrued interest that is owed to the seller (in the case of a bond).

Unit Size

The minimum trading increment in shares for an order that will be submitted for trading. The unit size for the markets in the United States is currently 1 share. Therefore, orders may be placed for any integer quantity, such as 12,345 shares, although orders are usually placed in increments of 100 shares.


Username:

A sequence of characters, different from a password, that is used as identification and is required when logging on to Alawsat.com.

Year low
